We've got a really good problem. We need a bus.
The Music Battery program is working. We will have the hard data to prove it next week. School grades will be issued and testimonials from teachers, parents and students will be documented. You're going to smile at the results. You will see the results in black and white. The long hours of practice; the commitment to the program every single day, Monday-Friday, for three and a half hours ... every single day. The community we have built and the pride we have in ourselves and in each other. This formula has made a difference. As a result, we need a bus. Right now, we march the kids from Morningside Elementary School .4 miles to the Ferndale Community Center. Rain or shine. There are other parents and guardians in the community who want their kids to participate in our FREE program. They want their kid's grades to improve. They want their kid's behavior and contribution to their community to be a positive one too. We have the place, the staff and the program. We just need to figure out a way to get more kids to us. We have also received an influx of public performance opportunities. We would like to say yes to more of them but we can't because we don't have the transportation to get us there. We need a bus. We're exploring every option available to us and we're ask for your input too. * Do you know someone with a bus that could donate it to the program? We're a 501c3 so it could be a nice write-off for them. * Do you know of a bus for sale in the area? Something safe and reliable and a fair deal. We're ready to grow the program to the next level and, well, we need a bus. Please direct feedback to: kris@themusicbattery.com encore music heard we were having our first concert on November 14th and that not all of the kids had drums to play on. Ed Blanton, owner of encore music, wanted to help. Today, Ed donated 5 drums and an insane amount of drum heads to The Music Battery so the kids can ALL play an instrument. It's people like Ed that are making a huge difference to our program. THANK YOU ENCORE MUSIC! If you find you need to buy any kind of instrument for now, or the holidays, go see encore music. It's a free concert and we'd LOVE to see your face there! It's that time of year when cornhole sets are at their hottest! Football is back, oyster roasts will be gearing up and holiday plans are being made. Need a gift? How about a cornhole set? For the months of September, October and November all corn hole proceeds will be donated to The Music Battery.
Kris Manning, co-founder of The Music Battery and master craftsman Tom Cokins have teamed up to build and hand paint custom corn hole sets that sell for $400 a set. The proceeds will benefit The Music Battery's quest to purchase drums. "The Music Battery will hold their first concert on November 14th at 6:30pm at the Ferndale Community Center," says co-founder Braeden Kershner. "Our hope, is that we can purchase real drums for the kids to play on for this concert. Right now they are playing on paint buckets." Order a custom cornhole set for $400 and know that your contribution will score you a personal unique set and help the kids get their drums. Check them out at: www.feralcreative.com
Filming begn July 24th at the Ferndale Community Center to capture the spirit and mission of The Music Battery, a new free after school drumming program. “J Bryan Bowden and Trident Technical College have donated their time, talent and some serious equipment to capture our story on film,” said Kris Manning, co-founder of The Music Battery. “JB is a filmmaker and a major talent in both the US and Europe. We’re so lucky to be working with him and the tremendously talented folks from Trident Technical College. We can’t thank them enough!” Trident Technical College offers an associate degree in production and certificates in filming, production and editing. For more information visit their websites at: www.tridenttech.edu and www.jbbowden.com The footage captured will highlight the free after school drumline program, how it works, it’s lead instructors and middle school aged children from the North Charleston school system who The Music Battery serves. An exclusive private house concert produced by Wakezine.com will be held at a home in Daniel Island Park, SC on May 25th from 7-10pm to benefit The Music Battery. 100 tickets are available for purchase at $20 each. Included in the price of the ticket is a concert performed by local Charleston favorite singer songwriter Chris Boone www.chrisboonemusic.com and Besides Daniel, a phenom from Atlanta that was just recently featured on NPR www.besidesdaniel.com . Guests will also enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine and a silent auction. "An up-close-and-personal opportunity to hear and talk to musicians of this caliber is very rare. Both of these artists are on the fast track to being the next big concerts at the Family Circle Cup", says Kris Manning, co-founder of The Music Battery. Ticket inquiries should be directed to Kris at kris@themusicbattery.com - the goal of this fundraiser is to purchase the t-shirts (uniforms) and water & snacks for the kids after school tutoring and drum line program GET TO KNOW THE MUSICIANS
